Featuring the latest paintings by Dennis Chan and the sculptural works of Cheev, “Dancing with the Elements “ is a unique
exhibition to evoke the simple pleasures from the ordinary act of perceiving the elements conjured by figurative and landscape forms.
According to gallery director Kenny Teng, “the artistry and the unconventional approaches to both forms and materials
applied by these two unique artists have no peers locally and the simple and raw qualities of their works are a refreshing
pleasure to behold.”
Cheev continuing with his sculptural figurative form, revisits his works in 2-dimension that involves photographic and digital application of his sculptural works to produce very strong and intense images. He tags his sculptural images as “Sculptographics”.
Regarded for his raw and sensual female attributes which he passionately devoted to for over 40 years, Cheev sculpturing
methods are ever evolving. He now combines and assembles fragments of carved wood pieces to complete his figurative
subjects.
This allows a resulted hollow but much organic and dynamic look that reflects Cheev’s current idea about energy being the source to life and forms. He terms this art conceptualization as “Fragmentalism”.
Dennis Chan decision to focus exclusively on the colour blue, away from his rich coloured application of his previous works, has moved up to another level challenging his mastery in scenic abstractions. It is from his maturity and confidence with both technique and material that compels him to create a more thematic series of works. His trademark drip and swirl technique captures a stronger and deeper reflection of water, sky and land elements of nature. Besides exploring the
dynamic and diverse fluidity of his medium, the spirituality associated with the colour blue played a major motivation for
his latest works.
